The Krampus has a long tradition in the Dolomites: as a terrible companion of St. Nicholas, he punishes naughty children, while the good ones are given sweets by St. Nicholas. On the eve of the 6th of December he is also busy in the villages. Gathered in groups, he goes through the streets to teach innocent and less innocent passers-by a little lesson with his rod. He appears in the dark as a figure that seems to come directly from hell through his wooden horror-carved mask, the body made of sheep fleece, his rod, and the cowbells. The devilish figures can be admired during parades. One of the most important is held in Sesto every year with more than 600 participants.
