Nowhere else can the invincible power of the Dolomite mountains be so physically felt than on a “via ferrata”, a fixed-rope route. Fascinating rock. All things vertical dominate here. Steel ropes, ladders and iron pins create a path where there is otherwise only bare rock. Bravery, fitness and a bit of humbleness when faced with the size and power of nature are part of the essential equipment here, in addition to helmet and safety materials. This also applies to simple fixed-rope routes in the Sexten Dolomites such as the Rotwand/Croda Rossa peak and the Alpini climb. An absolute must for all mountaineers and an ideal touchstone for newcomers!
Good news for hardened via ferrata fans: A cross-border via ferrata round-trip that leads right through the rocky giants of the Sexten Dolomite mountains was created as part of a collaboration between the mountain guides and mountain hut managers of Sexten, Kartitsch and Auronzo under the project title “Dolomiti senza confini“ (Dolomites without boders). A serious mountain experience that leads over a distance of 90 km on 12 fixed-rope routes along the old war paths between the Belluno province, South Tyrol and East Tyrol through the Three Peaks area.
