Da gennaio a febbraio il vicino Kartitsch, nella valle austriaca Gailtal, offre condizioni ottime per l’arrampicata su ghiaccio. La cascata Obstanser, con una difficoltà massima di WI 4, è alta circa 250 metri e richiede 6 tiri di corda.
Da Sesto si raggiunge San Candido per poi proseguire lungo la Val Pusteria fino a Sillian, dove devia la strada che conduce nella valle Gailtal. Si segue la strada in salita fino a Kartitsch, mantenendosi sulla destra si supera la zona sportiva Winklertal e, su una strada forestale, si raggiunge la località Kesselloch, dove si parcheggia l’auto (da Sesto sono circa 30 minuti). La cascata è ben visibile e dista circa 45 minuti di cammino. Tenete assolutamente conto del bollettino valanghe perché il lato posteriore dell’accesso, sovrastato dal Monte Gatterspitze, si trova saltuariamente in condizioni di rischio.
La discesa solitamente è effettuata lungo il sentiero Sommerweg che parte dal rifugio Obstansersee Hütte. Se la situazione valanghe non consente di seguire questo itinerario, in alternativa si può scendere direttamente sul ghiaccio su abalakov.
